FIRE STATION PHASE - 1

Ballyvolane Fire Station is a two storey building with a large canopy over the forecourt area and appliance bay building. The main facility building is constructed with concrete strip and pad foundations, load bearing blockwork and precast hollow core slabs. A feature of the building is the large steel framed open canopy and drill tower. The appliance bay building is a stand alone steel framed building located under the main canopy.

CIVIL DEFENCE PHASE - 2

The Civil Defence building consists of two independent single storey lightweight buildings.  The smaller of the two buildings is used for vehicular storage, the larger building encloses three fire engines and ancillaries as well as offices, catering facilities and various conference rooms.  The site is adjacent to the existing fire station and is located in poor filled, contaminated ground.  Ground improvement using vibro piles are used to enhance the foundation bearing capacity.  The lightweight cladding panels and structural steel frame minimise the loads on the strip and pad foundations.
