PROJECT DETAILS:

Blackpool Shopping Centre and Retail Park is a mixed use development of retail, offices, residential, leisure and multi-storey car parking.

The development is located on the sites of the old ESB Pole field and the former Sunbeam Industrial Estate in Blackpool, a suburb of Cork City.  The Shopping Centre was completed in 1999 and construction of the Retail Park commenced in 2003 and was completed in 2006.

The design brief for the development specified retail friendly spaces for all the ground floor units which involved minimising the number of columns to ensure flexibility for tenants, increasing the height of the first floors to accommodate future mezzanine floors and to relocate bracing away from display windows.

The retail park consists of six buildings, including a 800 space multi-storey car park, apartments, offices and cinemas all located over ground floor retail units.  All buildings have piled reinforced concrete foundations and steel framed super-structures with the exception of the apartment tower which is a reinforced concrete flat slab structure.

The River Bride was relocated to facilitate the development and now forms the centrepiece a landscaped amenity park.
