Bon Secours Hospital Galway is a 90 bed acute care facility, providing a wide range of surgical and medical services. The hospital was founded in 1954 as Calvary Hospital, subsequently traded as Galvia Private Hospital and became part of the Bon Secours Group in 1999. Currently, the hospital admits 12,000 patients per annum, comprising 4,000 in-patients and 8,000 daycases.
The hospital commenced the construction of a major expansion in April 2004 for which were the Mechanical & Electrical Design Consultants. This expansion was completed in April 2006. The focus of the new development was the expansion and modernisation of theatre and support CSSD departments. The new building has doubled the surgical capacity and comprises:
- 4 Main Operating Theatres (including 2 ultra clean air).
- 2 Endoscopy Rooms.
- 3 Minor Procedures Rooms.
- Associated CSSD and Recovery facilities.
- New Radiology Department
The new building also incorporates a dedicated 22 bed Patient Accommodation Unit, mainly for Daycases but also facilitating overnight stays.
The new Radiology Department houses a Screening Room, General X-ray, Mammography, Ultrasound and Densitometry.
The development also includes modification of the existing building including new entrance and Reception Area, new Laboratory, High Dependency Unit and additional in-patient bedrooms.
