The picturesque Village of Guileen with its numerous summer dwellings located on top of and close to a severely eroded and undermined cliff face, was in danger of loosing its summer residents to the sea.
The solution to the problem was constrained by Cork Co. Council's budget and consisted of a concrete retaining wall at lower level surmounted by a gabion wall supporting a fill area which replaced the previous eroded cliff face.
The newly formed slopes were topsoiled and secured with netting with the entire area being planted with marine compatible shrubs
