NANO NAGLE BRIDGE BRIDGE DESIGN EXPERIENCE

CLIENT: Cork City Council

PROJECT DETAILS :
In June 1984, JODA were commissioned to prepare schemes for a new Pedestrian Bridge across the north channel of the River Lee, as part of the Corporation’s contribution to “Cork 800”, to mark the Eight Centenary of the granting of the City’s First Charter. The bridge is located in one of the most scenic parts of the City, and aesthetic considerations were paramount in the design.   Many schemes were examined, which were eventually condensed to four. Cost comparisons were prepared and a recommendation made. The Corporation accepted the recommended design in August 1984 and full contract documents and working drawings were finalised in September and construction completed in March 1985. The bridge is an in-situ post-tensioned reinforced concrete structure with a Span of 25m.
